Egocentrism for life?

Ego- the “I” or self of any person; a person as thinking, feeling, and willing, and distinguishing itself from the selves of others and from objects of its thought.

My friend Carlos and were kicking this rhyme back and forth last week. After the second reading or so the verse started to have real significance for me. It stopped being just some random poetry or disassociated thoughts. It gained cohesion and became a tool for me to use in examining my ambition, my motiviation. It may not do that for anyone else, but I thought to share it in the chance that it might benefit you.

and my conscious go,
why throw everything away over ego
and strip my soul,
of all but what makes my fame grow,
and my shame show

For me in my life, my drive for self preservation, and self fulfillment, or what may be referred to as self actualization, left unchecked becomes a destructive force. It binds me to an arrogant mindset concerned chiefly with ME. Ultimately it separates me from my God (Jesus), my wife, my friends, and my true destiny. To clarify, my destiny is to serve others, to become less and less and less.
